Learn How to Read Eyeglass Measurements
Before you write down any numbers, you need to know where to find the size measurements of your glasses. Take a close look at your current pair and you’ll find numbers printed inside the frame that look something like this: 51–19–144. These measurements are interpreted as follows:

Check an Old Pair of Glasses
Ideally, you should use an old pair of prescription glasses or sunglasses that already fit you well. Alternatively, you can try on a friend’s pair to see if they fit you comfortably. If you look closely at the markings on the inside of the frame, you’ll notice a series of numbers that will help you find the correct size for your new glasses.
Keep in mind, however, that every pair of glasses can vary slightly depending on the manufacturer. In most cases, you’ll find the size information printed on the inside of the left temple arm.

What Is the Bridge Size on My Reading Glasses?
Your glasses measurements aren’t complete without the bridge size. One of the most common problems people face when shopping for glasses is finding a bridge that fits well. A bridge that is too narrow can pinch your nose and make the frames sit too high on your face, while a bridge that’s too wide will keep sliding down throughout the day.
The bridge size is the distance between the inner edges of the lenses – basically, the part of the frame that rests on (or over) your nose. In general, getting the bridge size right is more critical for acetate (plastic) frames than for metal ones. Metal frames usually have adjustable nose pads that can be tightened or loosened to fit a range of nose shapes and sizes.
So if you have a relatively narrow nasal bridge, metal frames with nose pads are often recommended to help keep your reading glasses from slipping.
