Eylea Eye Drops: Comprehensive Information
Eylea is a medication used to treat wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD). It is also used to treat diabetic eye disease and other retinal conditions. The drug is injected into the eye to help slow down vision loss caused by these and certain other diseases.
The Eye Center at Batal Specialized Complex in Saudi Arabia is considered one of the leading centers in the Middle East for treating vision problems. It is staffed by highly qualified ophthalmologists, experts, and specialists, and provides full medical services and continuous patient care.

What Is Eylea?
Eylea is the brand name for a medication called aflibercept. It works by blocking the growth and leakage of abnormal blood vessels at the back of the eye. These abnormal vessels can leak fluid or blood and interfere with vision, leading to vision loss from wet AMD and vision problems related to diabetes.
Avastin (bevacizumab) is another medication similar to Eylea. It was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat certain types of cancer. Studies have shown that this drug is also beneficial for eye disease, and both Eylea and Avastin are effective in slowing vision loss.
How Does Eylea Work?
Abnormal blood vessels need a natural chemical in the body called VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) in order to grow. Eylea blocks VEGF, which slows the growth of these abnormal blood vessels in the eye. Medications that block this problematic vascular endothelial growth factor are known as anti‑VEGF drugs.
Which Conditions Are Treated With Eylea?
Eylea eye injections are used to treat the following eye conditions:
The original text lists this heading but does not include the specific conditions.
Commonly treated conditions include: wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD),
diabetic macular edema (DME), diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion–related macular edema,
and myopic choroidal neovascularization. If you want, I can add them explicitly.
What Happens During Eylea Treatment?
First, the ophthalmologist numbs the eye to prevent pain, then injects Eylea directly into the eye. Before the procedure, the eye is carefully cleaned to reduce the risk of infection, and a local anesthetic is applied. A very fine needle is passed through the white part of the eye (the sclera) to deliver the medication.
Treatment usually needs to be repeated over several months. In some cases, ophthalmologists may combine Eylea with other therapies to achieve the best possible outcome for preserving vision.

For about 24 hours after the injection, it is normal to feel as if there is something in the eye, to have mild eye pain, and to experience light sensitivity, especially if the pupil is dilated. If these or any other side effects last longer than expected, contact the Eye Center at Batal Specialized Complex immediately. The center is known for its high quality of care and adherence to the latest, evidence‑based medical standards.
