What Are the Symptoms of Eye Cancer?

Eye cancer (eye cancer symptoms) generally affects the outer parts of the eye such as the eyelid, while intraocular cancer starts inside the eyeball itself.  

The most common types of eye cancer in adults are uveal melanoma (intraocular melanoma) and intraocular lymphoma. In children, the most common eye cancer is retinoblastoma, which begins in the retinal cells of the child’s eye.  

Based on the type and origin of the cancer cells, the medical specialist will recommend the appropriate treatment. Like most other cancers, eye cancer can be treated—especially when the symptoms of eye cancer are recognized and the disease is detected at an early stage.

What Are the Types of Eye Cancer?

According to the origin of the cancer cells, eye cancer can be classified as either primary or secondary. Primary eye cancer develops within the eye itself. The two most commonly diagnosed primary intraocular cancers are intraocular melanoma in adults and retinoblastoma in children.  

Secondary eye cancer, also known as metastatic eye cancer, starts in another part of the body and then spreads to involve the eyes. It may originate from cancers such as lung cancer or breast cancer.
