Surgeries Performed at the Day Surgery Center

Batal Eye Specialty Center Day Surgery Center
The Day Surgery Center at Batal Eye Specialty Center is the first of its kind in the Middle East, distinguished by its luxury, modern design, and advanced medical and technical infrastructure.
A Day Surgery Center is a facility where patients are admitted, treated, and discharged on the same day. It includes fully equipped operating rooms with anesthesia services and recovery facilities.
In Jeddah, our day surgery services cover a wide range of procedures, particularly dental surgery, cosmetic surgery, and ophthalmic procedures, ensuring high-quality care with minimal hospital stay.
What Do You Need to Know About the Day Surgery Center?
A Day Surgery Center is a specialized facility that provides minor and intermediate surgical procedures that do not require general anesthesia or hospital admission. Patients can return home on the same day without staying in the hospital, while still receiving comprehensive medical care and follow-up.
The Day Surgery Center for Eye Care is the first of its kind in the Arab world. This pioneering concept was adopted by Batal Eye Specialty Center, a leading ophthalmology and eye surgery center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Day surgery eliminates the need for inpatient hospitalization, reduces the amount of prescribed medications, and allows physicians to use their time more efficiently. Today, many procedures are performed in the surgeon’s office—known as office-based surgery—instead of traditional operating rooms.
Day surgery is ideal for healthy individuals undergoing simple or intermediate procedures. Recently, even patients with more complex medical conditions have been treated in outpatient settings, as the range and complexity of procedures performed in day surgery centers have significantly expanded.
Thanks to advanced technologies and highly effective procedures at Batal Eye Specialty Center, many surgeries can now be successfully completed in our Day Surgery Center, allowing patients to recover comfortably at home in their own beds.
Benefits of the Day Surgery Center
Day surgery offers many advantages for patients, including:
Lower costs compared to traditional hospital surgeries, as there are no overnight stay fees, shorter recovery time, and reduced expenses for accompanying family members.
Same-day discharge, which has a positive psychological impact on patients and can help speed up recovery after surgery.
Faster return to normal daily activities and routine life.
High-quality and safe medical care, as Day Surgery Centers are strictly monitored to ensure compliance with the latest medical standards and accredited clinical protocols.
Advanced medical equipment and modern technologies that minimize the risk of complications and support recovery within 24 hours.
Patient Tips for Day Surgery Procedures
Patients should bring a complete list of all medications they are taking, including dosage and timing. This list should include prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, herbal supplements, recreational substances, tobacco, and alcohol. This information helps doctors choose the safest medications and avoid unwanted drug interactions.
It is also important to inform your doctor about any food or medication allergies to ensure safe and personalized medical care.
Types of Anesthesia Used in Day Surgery
When a patient undergoes a procedure in a Day Surgery Center for an injury, condition, or medical issue, there are four main types of anesthesia that may be used in outpatient surgery:
General Anesthesia
Local Anesthesia
Regional Anesthesia
Monitored Anesthesia Care (IV Sedation)
When Is a Day Surgery Center Not Suitable?
Despite the many advantages of a Day Surgery Center, it may not be suitable in certain cases.
Not all surgeries can be performed in a day surgery setting. Some procedures require general anesthesia and extended postoperative monitoring, which makes hospital admission necessary.
A Day Surgery Center also does not provide emergency services for acute injuries or critical cases.
In addition, certain patients may not be eligible for day surgery, including:
Newborns and infants
Patients with chronic medical conditions, due to a higher risk of postoperative complications
Patients who require isolation or special infection control measures
In such cases, hospitalization is recommended to ensure the highest level of safety and medical care.

Eye Surgery Center
The Day Surgery Center for Eye Care is the first of its kind in the Arab world and is currently under development. This pioneering initiative is led by Batal Eye Specialty Center, a specialized facility providing comprehensive medical and surgical eye care for both children and adults.
The concept of this center is based on delivering the highest standards of surgical eye care by dedicating our expert medical team and utilizing the most advanced technologies available. This is complemented by exceptional post-operative follow-up and premium hospitality-level care for both patients and their companions.
At Batal Eye Specialty Center, we strive to remain the leading choice by providing compassionate, family-like care with the highest level of professionalism and clinical excellence.

Medical Care on the Day of Surgery
Thanks to the extensive experience of our medical team, a surgical procedure may be routine for our specialists, but we understand that it may be the first and most important experience for our patients. That is why we focus on reassuring patients and building confidence through clear and effective communication before the procedure.
We explain the patient’s condition, discuss the best treatment options, and clarify why a specific procedure is recommended to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Our day-of-surgery care pathway includes:
Arriving at the surgery center on time and completing check-in procedures
Preoperative preparation and required medical tests
Administration of anesthetic eye drops
Reviewing post-operative instructions
Ensuring that all necessary medications and prescriptions are provided for the next stage of recovery
At Batal Eye Specialty Center, we are committed to delivering a smooth, safe, and reassuring surgical experience from admission to recovery.

A Range of Procedures Performed at the Day Surgery Center
Some surgical procedures do not require an extended hospital stay and can be safely performed in a day surgery setting. One of the most common procedures is cataract surgery, a prevalent eye condition that can cause visual impairment and, in severe cases, blindness. Cataracts occur when proteins or pigments accumulate on the eye’s natural lens, causing it to appear cloudy.
Cataracts are most commonly associated with aging, but they can also result from eye trauma, congenital conditions, diabetes, or smoking.
During cataract surgery, the ophthalmologist removes the cloudy natural lens and, in most cases, replaces it with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). The most suitable lens type is carefully selected by the ophthalmologist before the procedure. Cataract surgery is one of the procedures that can be performed safely as same-day (outpatient) surgery.

Compassionate Pre-Surgery Care at the Day Surgery Center
We understand the concerns and anxiety that patients may experience before a surgical procedure—especially in the hours leading up to surgery. We truly empathize with these feelings, which is why the Day Surgery Center was designed to provide comprehensive support and reassurance to our patients.
Our patients can speak with professional consultants to discuss all their questions and concerns, helping reduce stress and anxiety and ensuring a smooth, comfortable surgical experience. This is especially important because most eye surgeries are performed without general anesthesia, and patient tension can negatively affect both the procedure and its outcomes.
Our approach focuses on building trust and confidence in the surgical team and the entire treatment process, ensuring patients feel safe, informed, and supported at every step.

Post-Operative Medical Care
At our Day Surgery Center, we provide dedicated hospitality and care for both patients and their companions. Patients are reviewed by the physician and receive the highest level of post-operative care from our experienced medical team in a sterile and controlled medical environment to minimize the risk of infection or wound contamination.
We also explain the possible symptoms and side effects related to the procedure, such as temporary blurred vision, redness, or mild irritation.
Patients are provided with comprehensive recovery guidelines to reduce complications and speed up healing, including:
Avoid swimming or using eye makeup for at least 7 days after surgery
Avoid rubbing or pressing on the eyes
Follow prescribed medications and post-surgery instructions carefully
At Batal Eye Specialty Center, our priority is ensuring a safe recovery and a smooth, comfortable healing journey.
