Femto-LASIK

Femto-LASIK is a form of eye surgery that is more precise than LASIK surgery. This surgical procedure is widely used to remove cataracts and correct keratomileusis with the help of a laser.
Please visit the Eye Center at Al Batal Specialized Complex in Jeddah to undergo a comprehensive eye examination and learn more about the Femto-LASIK process.

What is femto-LASIK?

The upper layer of the cornea is opened in a circular fashion and a small flap is bent to the side.
Femto-LASIK eliminates the need for a surgical tool to create a corneal flap before the shape of the cornea is changed by the laser.

Advantages of femto-LASIK

Here are some of the main features of femto-LASIK surgery and the difference between LASIK and femto-LASIK:

  • More safety: In femto-LASIK surgery, a computer-controlled laser is used to perform most of the surgical steps, which makes the operation safer.
  • Enhanced Accuracy: Produces highly accurate results.
  • Faster results: Femto-LASIK surgery is performed in less time
  • Corneal flap thickness is more predictable.
  • Low risk of astigmatism after LASIK
  • Reduced risk of corneal abrasions during surgery.

Femto-LASIK also gives the surgeon more options in the size, shape, and direction of the flap. Femto-LASIK is safer than LASIK, but it still requires surgery. Therefore, one can visit the Eye Center in Al-Batal Specialized Complex in Jeddah to learn more.
Also, in some cases, femto-LASIK may make it possible to create a thinner corneal flap, which enables the surgeon to safely correct higher amounts of myopia.

Possible complications of femto-LASIK

LASIK has been shown to be safe and effective for vision correction. Complications during and after LASIK are not common, but they can occur. Flap complications that can occur with either all-laser LASIK or regular LASIK with a flap created using a corneal micro flap include:

  • Partial flap.
  • Take off the flap.
  • Wrinkles in the flap.
  • Diffuse keratitis.
  • For epithelial growth (cells from the surface of the cornea growing under the flap).

One potential LASIK complication is a condition called transient photosensitivity syndrome that can be successfully treated with short-term steroid eye drops.

The difference between femto-LASIK and femto-smile

  1. The difference between femto-LASIK and femto-smile is major, but the safety profiles are similar. Because the results are so similar, it may be difficult for surgeons and patients to choose between the two procedures. The quality of vision is very high for both procedures, and both provide excellent results. However, femto-smile may have some advantages over LASIK, where it maintains a greater degree of integrity of the corneal structure.
One of the advantages of LASIK is that it has been around for a long time and tens of millions of procedures have been done, not to mention the fast visual recovery. The difference between femto-LASIK and femto-SMILE is that SMILE provides better biomechanical stabilization of the cornea and maintains the anterior corneal tissue.

Advantages of Vimto Smile

  • Wearing makeup is permitted on the day of surgery.
  • A vision result comparable to femto-LASIK.
  • There is no risk of injuries due to external impact such as accidents.
  • Dry eyes rarely occur after treatment.
  • Reducing the risk of corneal expansion compared to flap methods.
  • There is no pain during and after the laser treatment.
  • Safer than femto-LASIK.
  • Ideal for contact lens intolerance.
  • The upper corneal layer remains almost intact.
  • Painless correction of myopia and astigmatism.ation again.
