Femto Smile
Batal Center specializes in vision therapy and uses laser techniques to treat vision impairment.

The difference between LASIK, femto-LASIK, and femto-smile
LASIK is the oldest and most common procedure for correcting vision problems and it is suitable for treating the following eye diseases: myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. It is a surgical procedure in the literal sense, uses a scalpel (unlike the Femto-LASIK technique) and takes 30 minutes or less.
Farsightedness
Farsightedness in children is as common as it is in adults, and its degree varies from mild to severe and may not even affect vision even in mild cases.
Farsightedness can be treated without surgical intervention in mild and moderate cases, with only prescription glasses or subsequent lenses needed to correct vision. There are cases that require surgical intervention, and here it becomes clear that LASIK is very effective in correcting vision and its success rate is very high. The patient does not need to use lenses or eyeglasses, resulting in a clear improvement in terms of quality of life.
This is why Batal Eye Specialist Center offers a comprehensive and accurate eye examination carried out by highly qualified specialists to determine the appropriate treatment.
After LASIK surgery
You can dispense with eyeglasses and contact lenses immediately after the operation. In the first few days you may feel some itching or burning in the eye, notice tears, and your vision may be blurred. These will quickly resolve themselves and it can take around two months to three months after surgery to reach the desired result. This occurs when the eye heals and your vision stabilizes. You may need some painkillers or eye drops right after the LASIK procedure.
It is a procedure close to LASIK, during which vision is corrected and the cornea is reshaped in order to correct defects. This makes it a successful solution for treating myopia cases that are not suitable for LASIK surgery. The competitive advantage is that it uses the laser without the need to use the surgical scalpel used in the LASIK procedure. Besides that, it takes less time and has fewer side effects if it is performed in a reliable and safe place, such as the Batal Specialist Center in the Rawdah neighborhood of Jeddah. Here at the Batal Center doctors have performed the Femto Lasik procedure hundreds of times and gained the trust of patients after showing their professionalism and experience.
Femtosmile is the latest laser technology used in the field of ophthalmology. It is a process in which the latest laser technologies are used to correct myopia and astigmatism in one step and it combines the results of traditional vision correction techniques with comfort and accuracy to provide results close to those of the LASIK process. The advantage of femtosmile over LASIK is that it only needs a small opening in the eye, not one as deep as LASIK, and thus preserves the corneal tissue, and it also needs a small recovery period. Femto Smile is relatively recent. Femtosmile requires very high levels of accuracy and skill from the doctor, meaning that not many other clincis can offer such high numbers of specialists.
After treatment we advise that you refrain from scratching your eyes. Stay away from any source of heat and use eye drops for a long time after the operation to avoid dry eyes. You should also avoid getting water and dust in the eye for at least a week.
Femto Smile price
The price of Femto Smile varies according to each doctor, but it is generally higher than the traditional LASIK procedure as it requires special eye examinations and tests before the operation. What distinguishes us at Batal Specialist Complex for Eye Diseases is our passion for accurate pre-operative checks that increase the success rate of the operation for many of our clients in the long run.
In his interview with Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Dr. Ahmed Al-Batal said that the development of laser technologies in the field of treating eye diseases has transformed the lives of many by getting rid of medical lenses. You can read the full interview here.
Advantages of a Femto Smile process
One of the advantages of femto smile is that it is suitable for treating low vision cases that are not suitable for LASIK or femto-LASIK surgery. There are also other advantages of the femto smile process:
– The process is quick and takes less time than other eye operations.
– The healing of the cornea is faster during this process (within hours or a day at most).
– Dry eyes after the operation are less severe.
– The incision is up to 80% smaller than the incision length in older processes or techniques.
We know at Batal Specialist Complex the accuracy and sensitivity of this process, so we recommend it for the treatment of myopia only in the following cases:
– When the thickness of the cornea does not allow LASIK or femto-LASIK.
– In cases of severe myopia and when the degree of myopia to be corrected is very high.
– When the degree of astigmatism is low.
– If tear production is poor.
– If the patient does not need to drive during the night.
The difference between LASIK and femto-LASIk
Femto-LASIK is suitable for cases where LASIK cannot be used and also when the degree of visual impairment is low.
The preparation, the time taken, the anesthesia used and the cost of Femto-LASIK are similar to those used in LASIK, and the healing and recovery time is almost the same. The difference between the two procedures is that the Femto-LASIK procedure is performed using only a laser beam.
Doctors prefer femto-LASIK over ophthalmic LASIK because it is completely dependent on the laser and has fewer side effects.

- Femto-smile requires a skilled and highly professional eye specialist and surgeon in order to achieve the main advantage, which is a very small surgical incision.
The results of the two operations in the short term are almost equal, but femto-smile is better in the long term (after 6 months of the operation).
LASIK takes about 30 minutes. Femto-smile used to take three minutes, currently it may take only 24 seconds and it is expected that it will take only 10 seconds in the future.
When does vision stabilize again?
The recovery period varies from person to person, and the period of full recovery and stability of vision extends between three to six months.
Things that are normal to experience include:
- Discomfort and slight burning in the eyes.
- Water collects in the eye during the first 24 hours; this feeling may last for a week.
- Photosensitivity.
What distinguishes the use of lasers to treat vision defects is that the patient can live their normal life 48 hours after the surgical intervention. Most patients experience a noticeable clarity of vision during the first day after the operation.
The doctor’s advice must be adhered to and periodic follow-ups must be reported to him to ensure the full recovery of enhanced vision after the laser treatment.
